Moon Rise
Completed August 18th, 2008 | Acrylic on Canvas | 60" x 20"
I was commission by my good friend Jesse to paint a local landscape for his girlfriend Nikki's birthday. I was inspired to paint this piece while Jesse and I were surfing the north peak at Beacons one evening. Jesse had previously asked that the piece reflect the essence of their town, Leucadia California. As it were, during an outstanding sunset session while discussing veggie oil conversions and scoring set after set of glassy shoulder high waves that I looked up over the bluff and saw the moon rising above the palms. It was an amazing view from the water, watching the sun melt away into the sea as the moon mirrored her every step climbing higher into the night sky. On Nikki's birthday Jesse took her down to the same beach and shared a bottle of wine and when they returned her present, that will last a lifetime was waiting for her! Happy Brithday Nikki and thank you Jesse. Lets hope that there are many more surf sessions like that to come.
